Water Gardens
Water gardens are a very attractive feature. Adding a simple pond or creating a series of pools can give your garden it's own unique character. There are many options available, and even a small shallow bird bath type water feature will still be a great way to attract wildlife into your garden.
The following small guides should provide some useful advice.
Garden Pond Heaters
Not an essential item unless you are planning to keep fish that require a level of warmth that cannot be achieved naturally in your location. If your pond contains fish or any other aquatic animals that are used to a certain environment, it is extremely important that the pond water is kept at a stable temperature to ensure proper health.
Pond heaters lie on the bottom of the pond and must be completely submerged when in use. The heater units are well protected with a heavy-duty rubber surround. Obviously the condition of the protective cover is very important, as the raw elements could melt through any pond liner, and also present a danger. The controller unit for the pond heater must be located well away from the water, and should never be allowed to get wet, as with any electrically operated unit.
To determine the size of pond heater you need, consider that it takes approximately 1000 watts of heater power to heat 250 gallons of water to 10-degrees Fahrenheit. Consult you local suppliers for the best advice.
