Aquatic Plants - Floating Plants

To achieve a balanced and healthy environment for your pond, aquatic plants are essential. They act as a natural water purity filter and provide surface cover in your garden pond.

Floating plants are just added to your pond by dropping them in. Their roots are submerged and their leaves and stems float either on or just below the surface. They provide surface cover. Most floating plants will sink down and overwinter at the bottom of the pond, rising to the surface again is the warm weather.

Avoid any floating plants that become invasive 'Duck weed' is a real problem if it gets into your pond.

Water hyacinth is a summer flowering floating plant variety you may like to try. Consult your local supplier to see other examples of more standard floating plants that will grow well in your area.
