Plant Care

All the plants you have in your garden and also inside the house, should be cared for correctly. This will ensure you get the best displays and long-life from them.

Common House Plant Problems

Leaf Loss or Yellowing

Leaf loss or yellowing is often caused by lack of humidity. The majority of houseplants do best with a relative humidity of between 50 and 70 per cent.

House plants can create a certain amount of humidity themselves through transpiration through their leaves and from the soil they are seated in. The more plants you have in a room, the higher the humidity will be, and the closer the plants are together, the more they will be able to benefit each other.

It is often a good idea to set the pots onto a bed of small pebbles in a shallow tray, as this will allow you to add water to the tray, raising the humidity without leaving the plants standing in a pool of water!

Most house plants will benefit from misting with water, about once a day. Although some of the furry leaf types may not require this type of watering.

It is best to check the needs of each individual plant.

Another good idea is to put the plants outside for a few hours if the weather is suitable. This will help to refresh them, and will aid healthy growth.
