Plant Care

All the plants you have in your garden and also inside the house, should be cared for correctly. This will ensure you get the best displays and long-life from them.

Feeding

Plants that have been freshly potted will not require feeding for the first few months, while they are forming new roots. There are a few simple rules to apply to feeding.

Food that is purely for foliage plants, needs to be high in nitrogen, usually indicated on the container by the letter 'N'.

For flowering plants, such as Begonia's, you should ideally contain high levels of potash.

Slow release fertilisers can be incorporated into the compost to provide an extra boost of feed. Be careful not to overfeed the plants though, as this can cause more problems than help.

Some plants may require specialist feeds, such as Orchids or Cacti. Consult your local suppliers for advice if you have plants with any special requirements.

Feeding is best done from early spring to late summer, whilst the plants are in active growth, and should be stopped in the winter.
