Plant Care
All the plants you have in your garden and also inside the house, should be cared for correctly. This will ensure you get the best displays and long-life from them.
Conifer hedges
Very often garden hedges will have been created using some form of conifer. Conifers need regular pruning during their early years to help form shape and structure. Unlike other species, they are not shortened after planting, although long sideshoots can be lightly trimmed. The leading shoot is allowed to grow unchecked, tied to a supporting cane if necessary, until it reaches the final hedge height when it is stopped during routine summer pruning. Sideshoots should be trimmed once or twice annually from the second summer onwards. This will ensure dense and regular growth in any new hedge.
Well established hedges should be shaped to the required height and width, and a check kept to see that they do not go out of shape or extend beyond boundaries.
