Feeding your Lawn

Grass (Your lawn), should be treated like any other plant, and will thrive on a good and balanced diet. It is easy to remember to add fertiliser to the roses and other prised plants, but don't forget that any area of lawn will be just as responsive to fertilisers too.

Essential minerals such as Nitrogen (N) have vital functions to perform in plant growth - Grass with adequate nitrogen will be strong and healthy, being a good solid green in colour.

Other minerals such as Phosphorous (P) which affects all grass plant growth is particularly helpful in the germination of seeds, and Potassium (K) is essential in helping the grass to resist diseases.

These three minerals are the basis of most brands of lawn fertilisers.

Nitrogenous lawn fertilisers are Spring/Summer fertilisers and should be used only during the growing season Autumn/winter fertilisers will contain only small amounts of nitrogen.

If you are looking for a pre-seeding fertiliser (if you are starting from scratch and seeding a new lawn) you should look for a suitable feed from your local garden suppliers.

When applying lawn fertilisers, try to make the spread as even as possible to ensure even growth and colour and follow the manufacturers instructions carefully.
