Allotment Beans – the test results
The test is in the picking, and outward leaning bean poles, like ours, mean that all the beans simply hang away from the plant and can easily be seen. Bean wigwams, pretty as they are, tend to hide vast amounts of beans on the inside of the wigwam, so you have to poke around to find them, and risk damaging smaller beans that aren’t ready to be picked.
So the test is conclusive, outward leaning poles make picking easier!

Do we get to see a picture of your bean supports, I'm intrigued
You definitely do - I'm trying to load a picture and this blog is not cooperating - please check again tomorrow!
this is excellent...I would love to giv it a go but don't have that much room..pity as I am always finding monster sized beans!!
what a brilliantly simple idea. I will definitely try this next year as being only 5.3 it's quite tricky to reach the top beans usually. I like the idea of beans dangling forward to help me out :o)
What a good idea - I have a single row of upright poles with wire in between for the beans to entwine round, but I think leaning ones would be better again.
Thanks for posting the pictures, I now can see exactly what you mean and it sure looks like a good idea. I think I shall have to post a picture of my wigwams on my blog as they are now towering ove,r even though I kept pinching the ends off.
